Sri lankan New Year Food Table



I modeled a 3D still life related my culture, that is Sinhalese New Year, generally known as Aluth Avurudda (Sinhalese: අලුත් අවුරුද්ද) in Sri Lanka, is the new year of the Sinhalese people in Sri Lanka. It is a major anniversary celebrated by not only the Sinhalese people but by most Sri Lankans. 
So I chose few objects related to this event. There are lot of objects in this area and but this event represents foods, culture, friendship, various beliefs, those associated with fertility of the harvest gave birth to many rituals, customs, and ceremonies connected with the New Year. This food table symbolize a wish for the all that to be very healthy, wealthy, happy, and prosperous life.

Oil lamp

The offering of lighted lamps, which usually contain coconut oil, has been an important ritual in Sri Lanka since ancient times and continues until the present day. Buddhists perform the Sri Lankan oil lamp ceremony to "acquire merit or to avert evil influence." As "Buddha is regarded as the dispeller of the darkness of ignorance," believers offer lighted lamps in his name.

A Clock

"Clock" to represent time.


Food plates



Some "food plates" represent a prosperous period, since people live leisurely after harvesting in this new year period. Have the idea to include few food items related to our new year with bananas.

Punkalasa or the prosperity pot

A traditional symbol in Sinhalese art is the" Punkalasa or prosperity pot”. A sign of good luck and abundance, represented by an ornamental pot with flowers.



After combine all the elements which was modeled, it symbolizes a wish for the all that to be very healthy, wealthy, happy, and prosperous life.
